چکیده
OBJECTIVES This study aimed to study the relationship between the adiponectin gene and coronary artery disease as well as myocardial infarction, hypertension and diabetes in the Saudi population in Riyadh. METHODS This was a cohort study of Saudi patients from the Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) registry maintained at King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre. Samples were genotyped for target Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNPs) by real time polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Furthermore, Chi Square test was used for comparing the variables. RESULTS Out of 860 CAD patients compared with 467 non-CAD. The prevalence of the minor G allele of +45T>G in CAD patients was 934 compared to 786 in controls, and it shows no significant difference (p=0.598) between the two groups. The possibility tested that this variant might be associated with one or more of the CAD risk factors, such as hypertension, myocardial infarction, hypertension and diabetes mellitus. Nevertheless, the study did not show any significance between the two groups in CAD, gender and hypertension. On the other hand, the difference in MI was borderline and significant in diabetes mellitus. CONCLUSIONS This study showed a relationship between adiponectin and diabetes only as compared to results from other countries which also showed relationship with coronary artery disease, myocardial infarction and hypertension.

Single Nucleotide Polymorphism (SNP) in the Adiponectin Gene and Cardiovascular Disease
Dear Editor, The recent article by Mohammadzadeh et al.[1] on the latest issue of this Journal showed that the T allele +276G/T SNP of ADIPOQ gene is more associated with the increasing risk of coronary artery disease (CAD) in subjects with type 2 diabetes. Adipocytes were described in myocardial tissue of CAD patients and their role recently discussed[2,3]. Susceptibility to CAD by polymorp...
متن کاملAssociation of adiponectin gene rs2241766 polymorphism with serum adiponectin level, Insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes mellitus in an Iranian population
Introdution: Adiponectin is a peptide secreted from fat cells that plays an important role in the development of insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes. A number of single nucleotide polymorphisms in the adiponectin gene are associated with lower adiponectin expression and T2DM. The aim of this study was to determination the frequency of rs 2241766 polymorphism in adiponectin gene and its relat...
متن کاملAssociation of Adiponectin rs1501299 Gene Polymorphism with Adiponectin Levels and Type 2 Diabetes in an Iranian Population
Background and Objectives: Adiponectin is an adipokine, which is abundantly expressed in adipose tissue and has a potent roles in insulin sensitivity. This study aimed to test the association of single nucleotide polymorphism of rs1501299 of the adiponectin gene with adiponectin levels and type 2 diabetes. Methods: This case-control study was conducted on 80 diabetic patients with fasting bl...
متن کاملSingle-nucleotide polymorphism of rs11061971 (+219 A>T) in adiponectin receptor 2 (AdipoR2) gene and its association with risk of type 2 diabetes among an Iranian population
Background and Objectives: Genetic modifications in the adiponectin receptor 2 (AdipoR2) gene can affect phenotypes associated with insulin resistance and diabetes. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the possible role of genetic modifications in the AdipoR2 gene, to determine the frequency of genotypes and polymorphism alleles of this gene at rs11061971 (+219 A>T), and to investigate its...
متن کاملNew Insight into the Relation between Adiponectin and Diabetes
Diabetes mellitus is a group of metabolic diseases. Insulin resistance is defined as a state that needs more insulin to get the biological effects achieved by a lower amount of insulin in the normal state. Several molecules which are secreted through adipocytes have been involved in insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes mellitus. Adiponectin as a 244 amino acid protein is exclusively expressed...
